Accepted participants will be notified by September 8th.

E.A.S.T. reserves the right to deny an application for any reason what so ever.

Submission Requirements for the Catalog & Website

The 2008 E.A.S.T. Catalog will be a full color tour guide, which will include the studio map, a listing of all the studios and artists participating in the tour and local advertisers. The final count of how many will be printed is still unsure, but we hope to print as many as 10,000. The catalog will be available for free during the tour and around Austin in the weeks leading up to the tour. A limited quantity (amount to be determined) will be available to participating artists to share with friends, collectors, and supporters. Due to a continual increase in applicants each year, artists will be sharing pages with other artists. Depending on available space, images and statements may only be included on the website.
·
3 - 5 images
Please submit between 3 and 5 images as either JPEGs or TIFs (2100 x 1500 pixels or 7" x 5" 300 dpi) on a PC formatted CD (clearly labeled on the CD with artist/studio name). Please name the image files with the artist name and the title of the work, for example, if the artist’s name is Hollis Baxter and his work is titled Wood Life, then the file should be named: hollis_baxter_wood_life.jpeg

Please do not submit images with text or logos overlaid on the image, or images with multiple pictures collaged together to fit more images to a page. Blurry or poor depictions of art will not be printed or put on the website, nor will images taken in poor lighting or with very distracting surroundings.

Image list
This year we are going to include the title, medium, & dimensions with all images in print and online. Please list image credits (artist, title, medium and dimensions) in a .doc or .txt file, include this image list on the CD or in an email.

Statement
Please submit a concise paragraph about your work and/or studio. (a maximum of 100 words are allowed, any entry over 100 words will be edited) All written material must be submitted in a digital format, emailed or delivered on a CD (PC formatted CD with .doc or.txt files). Hand written statements will not be accepted.

Payment
Include a check or money order made payable to Big Medium for $100. Please be sure the studio or artist name is somewhere on the check or money order.

Opportunities for guest artists and non-studio locations

Guest artist. Artists whose studios are not within the boundaries are allowed to join studios applying to be on the tour. It is the guest artists’ responsibility to make all arrangements with the host studio before submitting an application. E.A.S.T. does not find studios for guest artists.

Exhibition space. Locations that specifically exhibit visual art or performances may join the tour. Galleries must exhibit fine art and be open year round. All locations to be considered must primarily be used as an exhibition space and not another business.

Site-specific projects. Site-specific submissions can be current art landmarks or a temporary project just for the weekend of the tour. All projects will be considered on a case-by-case basis and must be located within the E.A.S.T. boundaries. Any artist involved with a temporary site-specific project must receive permission to use the site, and go through any necessary steps to secure the site before proposing a project.

Food Venues. Food venues/Resturants can be listed on the E.A.S.T. map, but they can not be on the tour as studios or galleries. Please view our Advertising link on the home page for more information.

100*: Selections from E.A.S.T. 2008
(*this number will change depending on how many works the curator selects)

In addition to the 2008 E.A.S.T. Catalog, Big Medium will produce a full color art book. The art included in this book will be chosen by a guest curator who will select work from the images submitted for the 2008 E.A.S.T. Catalog. This book is intended to highlight a selection of current & interesting artwork from each year’s participants. Only a select number of participants will be included in this book. This collector’s item will be sold to help fund future studio tours.

Things in keep in mind:
The curator will be looking for high quality images that represent art in a professional manner. Blurry or low-resolution images may be judged poorly, as will images taken in poor lighting or with distracting surroundings. This book is meant to showcase the beautiful and visually strong imagery of E.A.S.T.
