Tillery Suite A-3 Leslie Omana Begert is a sculptor who works primarily in clay. Classically trained in figurative sculpture in Shanghai, China, her work was originally cast in bronze. Her journey has since taken her through Argentina and now to Austin, as she has increasingly focused on a less mimetic and more loosely figurative approach, with her pieces now being fired and cast in various materials. Her recent work has dropped the use of fine tools, using only a large stick to pound the clay into an expressive response to her life events (relationships, motherhood, and death) and to her ongoing study of the nude. |
